Sima News - From Lima to Sima: Process Safety and LACPS 2026

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in the 11th CCPS Latin American Congress on Process Safety (LACPS 2026), held in Lima, Peru, one of the main Process Safety events in Latin America.

Among the various topics covered, attention was drawn to the growing integration between engineering, risk management and digital technologies to make projects safer from their initial phases. Discussions on Inherently Safe Design (ISD), PHA, Barrier Management, PSSR and Management of Change (MOC) reinforced the importance of incorporating process safety from conception to operation of industrial facilities.

Also highlighted was the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence and continuous monitoring to support risk analyzes and make technical decision-making more assertive.

Another important moment of the congress was the launch of CCPS Agro-Industry Subcommittee, an initiative aimed at strengthening Process Safety in the agro-industrial sector, a market of great relevance for Latin America. Discussions included topics such as combustible dust, risk management in agro-industrial operations and performance indicators for facilities with different levels of PSM maturity.

In addition to the intense technical program, participants were able to discover some of the main attractions of Lima, a city that combines historical heritage, internationally recognized gastronomy and striking coastal landscapes.
